Blue Lagoon, Iceland
The Blue Lagoon is located in a lava field near Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland. It is one of Iceland's most popular attractions, also known around the world. Blue Lagoon is a 15-minute drive from Keflavík International Airport or a 30-minute drive from Reykjavík.

The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is one of Iceland's top tourist attractions and opens the Huffington Post list of the best hot springs around the world. The pond formed after the construction of the Svartsengi power plant, and swimmers quickly realized the positive effect of water on the skin, especially for people suffering from psoriasis. Today, the lagoon is a complex open to all ages, with different packages and body care treatments.

Blue Lagoon Clinic is an internationally recognized psoriasis treatment facility!

The Blue Lagoon is Iceland's best known spa and also one of the most charming. Due to the huge popularity of the lagoon, it is essential for visitors to book their sessions in advance.

Reykjanes Peninsula, where the Blue Lagoon is located, is an intensely active volcanic area. Not only are the earthquakes common here, but the peninsula and surrounding landscape is home to a host of volcanoes, boilers and craters.

In the year 1226, six volcanic craters exploded simultaneously, causing massive damage to the area, but in the meantime they created this impressive lava field that we admire today. This lava field is called Illahraun, and reaches from the edge of the Reykjanes peninsula to the charming port city of Hafnarfjörður. Part of the lava field is called Svartsengi, the Black Meadow, and since 1976 an active power station is located right there.
When to go
Any season really, the Blue Lagoon is always warm and welcoming. The only real difference, besides the weather, may be the price, as it depends on demand; therefore, the price is lower during the off season, which means that summer is the most expensive time to visit.
