Entre 1867 et 1871, il fut abaissé à cet endroit et dispersé dans un lieu inconnu. Il fut reconstruit en 1916 par Saavedra Machado et Luís Chaves et placé à l'endroit où il se trouve aujourd'hui. Il conserve l'original de l'arbre, la capitale et le couronnement corújo, tous ces éléments de style manuélin.

Construit au début du siècle. En 1698, sous le règne du roi Manuel Ier (1495-1521), il fut enlevé de l'avant du palais royal de D. Dinis (l'actuelle Pousada da Rainha Santa Isabel) au Santo André terreiro, en face de la Comté du temps.
